Happy Friday everyone! The weekend is upon us again and it's going to be a busy one for me. I'll be heading over to the Placer County Fairgrounds to set up for the Mes Amis Vintage Antique Show this morning. The show is from 6-9pm tonight and 9-3 on Saturday. It's so nice to have all day long to beautify our spaces and not have to deal with a grueling 3am street fair set up. I've been busy all week cleaning, pricing, packing, and trying to put the finishing touches on several little projects including this upcycled bicycle wheel.
As long as I'm bringing it to the show, I might as well use it to display some of my jewelry.
I started with an aluminum wheel (darn, magnets won't stick) and a very old, very heavy, and very dirty cast iron floor lamp base.
See that bolt? I found one just the right size to fit through the valve stem hole and the hole in the lamp base. I cleaned up the base with some fine steel wool, then sprayed it with one coat of clear matte sealer. It's almost like they were made for each other.
It's all held together with one washer and one nut.
What bicycle wheel would be complete without a glass door knob? After removing the ball bearings and wiping off the greasy goo, I used E6000 to attach the door knob.
This reminds me of something we used to do when we were kids. Do you remember using clothes pins to attach playing cards to your bicycle spokes? We thought we were so cool!
I just realized that it was the same time last year when I shared my last upcycled bicycle wheel project. I brought that one to Mes Amis and it sold right away, so hopefully this one will roll along to a new home too. I wish I could keep everything.
Happy weekend!

ReplyDeleteHi Betsy! I'm up to join some upcycling challenge in my country. Up to this day, I'm still clueless of what to do. I have a confession to make though, I've been backreading your posts to be inspired. :) I'm hoping that at least for a day, I will be infected with a drop of your superb wizardry!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet that wheel didn't last long! Or your jewelry -- looking forward to hearing about your weekend. I must make it to that show one of these days!
