Happy Easter Greetings

Every so often I find myself rummaging through a box of cards and letters that my mom gave me several years ago when she was downsizing.  The box is full of "congratulations on your new baby" cards, birthday cards, Valentine's Day cards, and even report cards from as far back as the first grade.  The report cards from the early years are hilarious, but I have no idea what was up with the B in Arts & Crafts when I was a senior in high school...that was my favorite subject.  Anyway, I couldn't resist sharing these two Happy Easter cards from long ago.

My very first Easter card.  Love those fuzzy yellow jammies.

Oh my, was it really that long ago?  I could have bleeped it out along with the stain, but what the heck.  I'm just happy to have it after all these years.

Here's another one from my cousin Bernie who was about two years old at the time.

A HAPPY EASTER ALL THE DAY THROUGH!

I hope you're all enjoying your Easter weekend so far.  Any special plans?  It looks like there's a lot of rain headed our way, so I'm happy we don't have outdoor plans.

Stenciled Window Screen

It was the rusty blue frame of this tattered old window screen that caught my eye when I discovered it in the outdoor section of an antique mall a couple of months ago.  The poor thing was still wet from a recent storm and it needed a good cleaning to remove all the debris stuck inside the back of the frame, but I had to have it.

I knew right away it wanted to be a sign.

Antiques for sale....this way and that way.

I gave it a bath and sprayed the frame with a matte acrylic sealer.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the stencil from some cheapo shelf liner instead of the more expensive Silhouette vinyl.  As you can see, it did not want to stick to the screen, so I ended up stenciling in small sections as I held it down with my fingers.

I wrapped some wire through the small slits in the corners, then tied the twine to the wire.

The nail is covered with the help of a large vintage rhinestone button.  A little bling is always a good thing.

Now I'm adding rusty old screens to my focus list when I'm out treasure hunting.

HAPPY SPRING

Spring has finally arrived!  We've been blessed with the most beautiful weather over the last few weeks, but still not much in the way of color and new growth in our yard.  We're getting some much needed rain on this first day of spring, so maybe we'll have some new blooms soon. In the meantime....

I don't even have to water it.
Are you enjoying the spring weather where you live?

Sharing

I always enjoy reading blog posts about vintage finds.  Thrifty treasures from flea markets, yard sales, thrift stores, and curbside finds always grab my attention, but this one was different...

Last month I was reading one of Diane's posts (Lavender Dreams) where she showed off
some thrifty and very pretty vintage towels she found.  The one that caught my eye was personalized with the name Ilse....one of my very best and dearest friends for over 35 years.  Even though Ilse moved out of state several years ago, we still keep in touch and can talk for hours about our vintage finds and junking adventures.  She loves vintage linens.

When I asked Diane about it, she was kind enough to send it to me along with another towel.  I'm happy to say that Ilse loved her personalized towel and I love my red and white apples
 and little shells.
Thank you Diane for sharing your sweet vintage towels with us!

Let's Go Shopping

Good things happened on the way back from delivering my stack of paper work to the tax man. I had a nice lunch with my mom after the "drop and run," then my car found its way to a couple of antique shops including Magpie Antiques in Ripon, CA.  Janet Dyk, the proprietor gave us a nice warm welcome and we both had such a fun time exploring every nook and cranny of this fabulous new shop.

Warning:  This post is picture heavy, so I'll try to keep the comments to a minimum.
Let's go shopping...

I knew we'd be in for quite a treat the moment we walked in the front door.

Vintage goodies everywhere!

I love this huge cubby packed full of treasures.

This one is a more manageable size...if only I had a place for it.

Isn't she lovely all dressed up in her spoon necklaces, lace and corset?  Dress forms are everywhere!

This black metal cash register drawer in Becky's booth (Sweet Cottage Dreams) had to come home with me; you know I love little storage compartments. I also brought home a tattered, but interesting black case that will be getting the stencil treatment.

Storage heaven!

The Love of Lace....oh yeah!

If you're in the area between Stockton and Modesto off of CA99, you don't want to miss
