I'm sure that most of you know by now just how much I love little storage containers. Industrial style metal drawers, boxes, cubbies, jars, bins, and baskets. I love them all, especially when they have so much vintage charm.
My original plan was to put a chalkboard label on the side of each canister so I could identify the contents. I just wanted to fill them, stack them, then be done with them.
Just $1.00 each at the Alameda Antique Faire.
They were just too sad and plain looking, so I decided to pretty them up with hardware and rhinestones. I drilled a hole in the lid and attached the pink knob with a bolt and nut. All the other parts were glued on with E6000. That's an old painted doorknob escutcheon hole cover under the bling.
The blue painted knob and pink earring are glued on, and the faucet handle is bolted from the inside.
My thimbles finally made their way out of a zip lock bag.
A perfect size for storing tiny pieces of vintage lace.
Even if I forget all about what's stored inside each one, at least I'll enjoy looking at them. Maybe I should still add those chalkboard labels.
Join us every Tuesday evening at 5:00 PST to show off your vintage inspiration.

ReplyDeleteI can't type on my ipad.

These are precious! I'm copying, sharing and pinning.
ReplyDeleteThese are brilliant! I've been trying to talk myself into storing my treasures in clear plastic IKEA boxes so that I'll always know what is in them, but that would be an insult, wouldn't it? These are perfect and come with the romance of old movie houses and Greta Garbo.

ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw your title I thought you meant the small plastic film canisters. Couldn't really see how those could be blinged up. These are SO much better! Great job! Thanks for sharing!

Oh this was a fun post for me, Betsy! I love how you dolled up these canisters!
ReplyDeleteWhen my daughter was in high school, her photography teacher was cleaning house and getting rid of tons of these...all in rusty, patina'd perfection...and asked if any of the students wanted any. No takers! My daughter, bless her heart, said 'uhhh, my mom would DIE to have these'--and she came home with about 30 or 40 of them!!! I've transformed a couple, but now I am newly inspired! I just love them, even plain. But the bling on yours is so adorable!
Oi amiga, bonito por dentro e por fora, adorei os dedais.Boa semana Beijo.
ReplyDeleteYou're too funny, Betsy! First of all, what a great use for them. Second of all, I'm the same as you, I put things in nice organized containers but if the container is not see-through I forget what I put in them! But you're right - it will be nice just looking at them!

These are lovely! As they're all different that may help you remember what's in each. Now that is if you don't start swapping the lids, LOL.
ReplyDeleteBetsy, these turned out just darling! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
