A good cleaning, two coats of paint, and a label from The Graphics Fairy was all it needed. The full label was too long for the box, so I found a good cutting off point.
Before. It's looking a bit weary don't you think?
Isn't that little hinge cute?
The top got a good cleaning with Howard Restor-A-Finish and #0000 steel wool.
No need to remove the hinges, I just painted right over them.
I left the interior unpainted, including the original black paint, then lined the shelf and bottom with some reproduction advertising paper.
Ah, much better!
This really turned out to be a nice piece! Love the patina of the top.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job as usual! Have a great weekend!

I love that hand-rubbed finish on the top. A perfect job of sprucing up but retaining the vintage charm.

ReplyDeleteSo much better! Those old shoe shine boxes have so much character but are lacking in the polish and shine department oddly enough. You made that one come back to life with the time, love and tenderness you gave it. It's a show stopper now!
