This antique suitcase was a perfect candidate for a junky sign makeover. The top is a warped and has started to collapse, but it still stands upright. It was about time I did something with the drafting t-square that's been hidden out there for who knows how long.
I used my Silhouette Cameo to create the custom Vintage Market sign, then stenciled the bottom with white acrylic paint. No sealing or waxing required.
The fabric on the inside is sagging and still needs a good cleaning. Lots of old dust and even a few dead bugs. Yuck!!!
I painted the blond wood on the t-square, then created another stencil with my Silhouette. See the arrow pointing to the arrow? The end of the t-square needed a point, so added a few inches of an old folding ruler. Now there's no confusion about which way to go for cool flea market junk.
I'll be loading up the suitcase in just two short weeks for my next Vintage Market. In the meantime, I'll be busy making more junky signs from some of the stuff I found in my garage.
I'd love for you to stay connected with My Salvaged Treasures. I'm just one click away.
I LOVE this! That great old suitcase makes a wonderful sign!

So totally cool!
ReplyDeleteThat suitcase is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love the suitcase and the sign. I think I want to make my t-square into an arrow! I love it. Good job. Dianne
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy, I would love to shop your garage and I LOVE your suitcase! It makes a fantastic sign.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Love them both. The use of the folding ruler for a pointer is up to your usual brilliance.

I'm looking forward to reading about your next Vintage Market. The suitcase is fantastic. I wondered if a machine like your Silhouette would cut stencils and now I know. I might have to watch more YouTube videos. I've never invested in one of these and might have to look into it. In the meantime, I'll keep reading your blog and looking at your photos and wishing I could go to your Vintage Market. But I don't need anything so it's just as well that we live so far apart.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun these signs are! Love the suitcase!
ReplyDeletehugs!!
Love both projects! I just saw a similar, but much larger, suitcase at the thrift shop. I passed because it what all warped and weird looking. It was also tan... I think I NEED to go back and get it though because I could paint it black and do lettering like you did! Awesome :o]

You did good. The T square makes a great sing with the arrow.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the weekend.
Another great rescue PLUS makes room in your magic garage for more!
ReplyDeleteGreat makeovers!! I love shopping my own house. But I usually don't know what to do with what I find!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Great rescues! I have an old suitcase like that and just bought a map to use on the inside. Not sure how I want to do the outside but sure wish I had your stencil maker.
ReplyDeleteBetsy,
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea for that old suitcase. I have one that needs a makeover...but I just need more time to get all my projects done. Hope you are having a fun holiday weekend.
Blessings,
Linda
